Workbook Linking

You use workbook linking to link the parameter values in a GEOVIA MineSched scenario to data that exists in an external workbook.

You can link values to any parameters that can be viewed as a spreadsheet in place of a data grid. That is, Locations, Cutoffs, Material Movement, Process Rates, Resource Capacities, Production Rates, Development Rates, Location Constraints, Spatial Relationships, Polygon Precedences, Production Parameters, Activity Animation, Tracking, Precedences, and Priorities.

You set up and manage the links between your scenario and external workbook values using the Manage Links option in the Spreadsheets menu.

Note: Data in your MineSched scenario is not automatically updated when the data in the external workbook is changed and saved. To import updated values, use the Manage Links form to reload the data.

The Manage Links form has three areas that you use to create and manage your links.

Fields on the Manage Links form

Field Description
Workbooks pane
Add Workbook Allows you to add an external workbook to the scenario.
Remove Workbook Deletes an external workbook from the scenario.
Save active workbook

Saves the selected workbook.

Note: If a workbook has unsaved changes, it is displayed in red with an asterisk to the left of the workbook name.

Reload active workbook

Reloads an external workbook.

Reloading a workbook is important when you know that the values you have linked to your scenario have been changed and saved in the external workbook.

Auto reload links
  • Selected: Data is automatically reloaded from the external workbooks each time the scenario is opened.
  • Note: If you choose to automatically reload external data, and one or more workbooks cannot be located or opened, a warning appears. The scenario opens with the values that were loaded from the external workbooks the last time the scenario was saved. If you want to update the values from the external workbooks, first make sure that the workbooks exist in the expected location and that they are not in use in any other application. You can then open the Manage Links form, select the workbook, and click Reload active workbook.

  • Cleared: Data is not automatically reloaded from the external workbooks.
  • Note: For scenarios that include external links, if you do not choose to automatically reload linked data, each time you open the scenario you are presented with options to reload the linked data or continue without reloading. Not selecting Auto reload links allows you to choose update any changed values, or continue using the existing values each time you work on the scenario.

Sheets pane
Add Sheet Adds a new sheet to a workbook.
Remove Sheet Deletes a sheet from a workbook.
Sheet list

Lists all of the sheets that exist in the workbook.

Note: For the internal workbook, to make the sheets available in the Manage Links form, select the Active check box to the left of each sheet name. Selecting the sheets enables the spreadsheet view for the data grid associated with each sheet.

Date/event

Opens the Event Builder form, which you use to select a date or event to add to a cell.

If you choose a date using the Event Builder, it is added to the cell in the correct format for MineSched.

Note: If you enter dates in cells manually, it is important to use the "date dd/mm/yyyy" format. If you import a date into a scenario from an external workbook, the prefix "date" must be added to the field and the date must be formatted as text. You can format the date from an external workbook using a formula. For example, =CONCATENATE("date",TEXT([workbook_cell_reference],"dd/mm/yyyy")).

Choose File...

Opens the Choose a File form for you to select a file name and location to add to the currently selected cell.

The file name and the absolute folder path are added to the cell.

Zoom Sets the magnification of the cells in the workbook.
